"WILL MEMBERS KINDLY BRING THEIR GAS MASKS"

In this period, Progress Lodge gave charitable donations locally to the "Bebington & Bromborough distress welfare committee” and the "Bebington & Bromborough unemployed welfare association”. At regular intervals, charitable donations were given to "THE Hospital" Port Sunlight (today the building is Leverhulme Hotel).

1940’s:  Donations were still being sent towards the 1945 RMBI for girls throughout this period - indeed during the darkest hours of the Blitz. Masonic activity was very heavy during this time - as an example between April 1944 and March 1945 no fewer than 18 meetings were held to carry out various ceremonies - sometimes two in on evening. The first installation after the war attracted no fewer that 134 members & visitors - the Art Gallery had been a tight squeeze.

1950’s & 1960’s: This Was A very busy time for the lodge with again a ceremony for a candidate at each meeting. The Lodge had settled down to a regular pattern of meetings & ceremonies.

1970’s: A plea for funds for a new carpet was received asking for the Lodge's share a sum of £40 - how different to the one used today which is only five years old & cost some £1500. On Feb 1973, the 50th Worshipful Master has being installed. 1980’s: During the 1980’s, the ownership of the Lady Lever Art Gallery was passed to the Merseyside Metropolitan Council and the building needed considerable repair & renovations. Freemasons were prevented to further hold meetings in the Art Gallery and the Masonic fraternity had no option but to relocate to the HULME HALL. The date of 15th October 1986 marks the end of 62 years association of "PROGRESS" Lodge with the Lady Lever Art Gallery that had one of the finest lodge room layouts outside of London & was the home of many Masonic museum items & memorabilia. The first meeting at the new venue of Hulme Hall was Wednesday 19th November 1986.

1990’s:  Progress Lodge has survived Wars & periods of Industrial upheaval. As the 1990s decade drew to its end, it is very heartening to show that the confidence the founders had of this very fine Lodge when we celebrated 75 years existence in 1999.

Today: "PROGRESS" Lodge No. 4584 is proud to be listed in the Province of Cheshire. The hope of all the members is to see that the fine traditions of this Lodge will continue to flourish by Introducing Worthy Men into this Fine order & indeed Masons who are yet to be born. If these potential candidates embrace the craft over the next 90 years as well as those who have in the past, then this will secure the future of Freemasonry and also the future of this Lodge by looking forward to our next important milestone in 2024 when we hope to celebrate our Centenary.

Our meetings are held on 3rd Wednesday in Oct, Nov, Jan, Mar, April & 3rd Sat in February.
